TY Takeover: Full show
Listen back to the TY Media Week class of 2025 who took over the airwaves in Galway Bay FM for the TY Takeover on October 25th.
Anchored by Anna O’Malley and Bobby Burke, the show featured a huge variety of content from sport to movie reviews, panel discussions, vox-pops and interviews.
- The big story of the day was the Presidential election. Otis keeps us up to date on counts within the Galway area while earlier in the week, students had the opportunity to put questions to both candidates, so we shared their answers with listeners.
- Athletics champion Rachel Francis gives her thoughts on why female students drop out of sport, while Otis Warwick and Luke Dwyer speak to Moycullen Senior Men’s physio James O’Toole and Content Lead at Galway United Joseph Murray respectively about different ways to work in the sports industry without necessarily playing sports.
- In honour of the success Celebrity Traitors UK has gathered in its run so far, Sophia Curran provides a recap of the game, and Stephen McKeon sits down with Diane Flaherty, a Galwegian who braved Slane Castle to take part in the Irish Traitors.
- The students take to the streets to interview passers-by about their opinion on Australia banning social media for under 16s, while Mia Costa speaks to Catherine Corbett from Active Consent on how teens can stay safe online.
- The 6 O’Clock news is read by Rachel Francis, with a Showbiz bulletin from Darragh Brinn and Men’s County Final preview from Luke Dwyer.
- Gaeilgeoir Robyn Keane catches up with Ireland AM’s Síomha, one third of the bilingual podcast ‘How to Gael’ to discuss the Irish language and talk about the HTG upcoming live show in the 2025 Galway Comedy Festival.
- Mia Costa interviews Frank Breslin, current president of Swim Ireland, to discuss Olympic swimmer Shane Ryan’s recent enrollment in the ‘Enhanced Games’. Our panel of Darragh Brinn and Cian Healy give their thoughts on whether they think young swimmers will be influenced by Shane Ryan’s decision.
- The show concludes with a spooktacular Halloween segment: Stephen McKeon’s top three scary movies with input from Galway Bay FM listeners, Sophia Curran’s deep dive on the new American craze ‘Trunk-or-Treating', and Robyn Keane’s gig guide for under 18s this Halloween.
The TY Media Week programme is funded by Coimisiún na Meán with the Television Licence Fee and has been devised by Learning Waves in association with Galway Bay FM.
