A local TD is urging the Government to increase funding for playgrounds.
Galway West TD John Connolly raised the issue with the Minister Norma Foley at a recent meeting of the Oireachtas Select Commitee on Children and Equality.
Deputy Connolly says more investment is badly needed to ease the burden on local communities, who currently have to compete for limited grants and carry out their own fundraising.
The Fianna Fáil TD is suggesting a scheme is developed which would be similar to the Sport Capital Fund.
