The Hawthorn by Galway Bay

Building on the long-established home of championship golf on Galway Bay, we’re delighted to introduce The Hawthorn by Galway Bay, Ireland’s newest 5-star destination, opening soon along the Wild Atlantic Way.

To mark the opening, guests are invited to experience the Opening Season Exclusive, book direct for stays and enjoy a complimentary upgrade to a suite, along with a chilled bottle of Champagne on arrival.

This week John Morley on Galway Talks has an exceptional treat in store for listeners. To showcase the different aspects of the hotel throughout the week, we’d like to offer a selection of prizes:

  • Afternoon Tea for 2 at The Aviary
  • Round of Golf for 2
  • Evening Meal for 2 at their signature Skylark Restaurant
  • On Friday, one lucky winner will be upgraded to include an overnight stay with Bed & Breakfast.

The Hawthorn brings together a luxury spa, standout dining, and of course our championship golf course overlooking the bay, with open-fire cooking and an 18-hole coastal course, every part of the experience is shaped by its surroundings.

There are openings that make an impression, and then there are those that quietly redefine a place. The Hawthorn by Galway Bay, opening soon out at Renville just beyond Oranmore, feels firmly in the latter.

For anyone who has walked the shore or taken in the view across the bay on a bright evening, this is a corner of the county that has always felt quietly special. Set along the Wild Atlantic Way, this 114 room destination  brings new confidence to a stretch of coast long cherished locally, a proud new chapter for this part of the bay.

Designed in response to its surroundings, the hotel blends bespoke furnishings with contemporary comfort and a warmth that feels distinctly Irish. Interiors are shaped by natural materials and layered textures, creating spaces that are elegant yet grounded.

At its core, The Hawthorn is about connection, to landscape, to craft, and to place. Guests can take to the championship course designed by Ryder Cup legend Christy O'Connor Jnr., where rolling greens meet views across the bay to the Burren. Beyond the course lies quieter exploration, coastal cycling routes, birdwatching, or walking through nearby Renville Woods.

Dining is central to the identity. The Skylark, the signature restaurant, is anchored by a live open grill celebrating west of Ireland produce. The Oystercatcher Bar pairs cocktails with Japanese cuisine, shaped in collaboration with acclaimed chef Takashi Miyazaki.

Wellness is a destination in itself. The Spa at The Hawthorn offers a full thermal suite, immersive wellness spaces and outdoor bathing rituals. As the exclusive Irish home of Tata Harper, and in partnership with Maison Caulières, it features signature treatments using botanical oils, Atlantic salt and seaweed.

The Hawthorn by Galway Bay is now open for bookings, with an Opening Season Exclusive offering a complimentary suite upgrade and Champagne on arrival for stays this summer.
