A snow-ice warning continues for the entire country until 11 this morning.
Parts of Galway, along with other west and northwestern areas, were hit with sleet and snow shower, with accumulations in some areas.
Roads in many parts of the country are treacherous this morning after temperatures dipped to as low as minus 6 degrees in some places.
Met Éireann is warning that many counties will be affected by frost, ice and freezing fog patches this morning.
A Status Yellow Snow-Ice warning is in effect for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Connacht and Louth and Met Éireann has said that other counties could receive some wintry showers.
The warning is valid until 11 this morning.
A number of schools in Donegal will be closed today and in the North a significant number will remain closed due to the weather conditions.
The UK Met Office has issued a Yellow warning for snow and ice for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry with the potential to cause disruption to travel today
