The death has occurred of Dermot Flaherty, The Maples, Gort, Galway.
FLAHERTY Dermot . The Maples, Gort, Co. Galway and late of Hawkhill, Gort. Peacefully, surrounded by his heartbroken family in Galway University Hospital on the 23rd of May, 2025, after an illness bravely bourne, with humour and courage. Current Galway County Board Delegate and lifelong stalwart of Gort Hurling Club.
Pre-deceased by his beloved parents Tomo and Noreen (née Dempsey).
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Dermot. Cherished and much loved, he will be sadly missed by his loving wife Anne Marie and his adored children Eoin and Éabha. Fondly remembered by his sister Marguerite Killalea (Kilrickle), brother’s John (Kilchreest), Paul (Circular Rd, Galway), Kieran (Castletroy, Limerick), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, by his father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Mary Griffin, nephews, nieces, cousins, by the extended Flaherty, Griffin and Dempsey family’s, great neighbours, work colleauges, many friends and by all his connections in Gort Community Centre, Gort Hurling Club, Galway GAA and the wider GAA community.

Dermot will lie in repose in Seomra Ciúin, within Gort Town Hall, Church Street, Gort, (H91 E0C8) on Monday evening, May 26th from 5pm with removal at 7pm to St. Colman’s Church Tierneevin. Requiem Mass on Tuesday 27th of May at 12 noon. Dermot will be laid to rest afterwards in St. Colman's cemetery, Gort. Family flowers only please, donations, if desired, to Gort Cancer Support. House private at all times please.
