The death has occurred of Geraldine Ruane née Donnelly, Coole Haven, Gort.
And late of Mervue and Knocknacarra, Galway City. Peacefully on the 23rd of October, 2025, surrounded by the love of her heartbroken family and in the tender care of the wonderful staff of The Galway Hospice.
Pre-deceased by her father Gerry Donnelly by other beloved family members and friends.
It is with broken hearts and many tears that we announce the sad passing of our beloved Geraldine, after an illness borne with great courage and dignity. Deeply mourned and forever loved by her husband and best friend Tommy and by her dear mother Josephine. Cherished and adored by her daughter Joanna, son Keith, by their father John and by Keith’s wife Rose. Fondly remembered by Marcella & David and Lorna & Florence. Treasured and much loved by her grandchildren Leanna, Theo, Daisy, Clara, Sam, Eoin, Tadgh, James, Sean and Conor. Geraldine will forever be in the hearts of her brother Dereck and his partner Siobhan, sisters Jacqueline Morris-Burke and her partner Stuart and by Tara and her husband Eric Elwood. Deeply regretted by her aunt Anne Lowry (Headford), nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, by the extended Ruane and Donnelly families, great neighbours, former work colleagues and many loyal friends.

Geraldine will lie in repose in Seomra Ciúin, within Gort Town Hall, Church Street, Gort, (H91 E0C8) on Sunday evening, October 26th, from 6.30pm until 8pm. Private removal from her residence on Monday October 27th with the funeral cortége arriving at St. Colman’s Church Gort for Requiem Mass at 12 noon. Geraldine will be laid to rest afterwards in St. Colman’s cemetery Gort. House private please at all times. Flowers are welcome as Geraldine loved flowers or donations in lieu of flowers can be made in her memory to Gort Cancer Support or The Galway Hospice Foundation.
The family deeply appreciates your kindness and support at this time. A special word of thanks to all who cared for Geraldine throughout her illness. Finally much gratitude to our kind neighbours and friends for all they have done for us over these difficult days.
