The death has occurred of Thomas (Tom) McGuire, Doonbeg, Cummer, Tuam, Galway
Tom passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, 30th May 2026 in his 92nd year, surrounded by his loving family, following a long illness bravely borne with great courage, faith and dignity.
Predeceased in March 2026 by his beloved daughter Sandra.
Deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving wife Marie; his daughters Geraldine Connolly, Breda Connolly, Berni Burke and Martina Paton; his sons John McGuire and Thomas McGuire; his sons-in-law Mike Connolly, Enda Connolly, Paul Burke, Michael Paton and Ken Kendellen; his daughters-in-law Lisa McGuire and Mona Pavel; his grandchildren Ivan, Dylan, Johnathan, Adam, Darragh, Laura, Katie, Ronnie, Patrick, Britney, Danielle, Jocelyn, Alison, Summer and Lily; his granddaughter-in-law Sheridan Sandow; his great-granddaughter Ella; extended family, neighbours and many friends.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, a proud farmer and shopkeeper who touched the lives of many throughout his community. Together with Marie, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage earlier this year, he operated the local grocery shop in Corofin for many years, becoming a familiar and friendly face to generations of local families. He enjoyed travelling the country, dancing and a good game of 25. He loved a cup of tea in the company of family, friends and neighbours, sharing stories and reminiscing about times gone by. His gentle nature, warm smile and unwavering love for his family will be remembered always.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Fionnula Doyle, Emma Beades and the Public Health Nursing Team, the Community Palliative Care and Primary Care Teams, Mary Marsden, and all at Pure Pharmacy, Tuam, for their care, support and kindness throughout Tom's illness. Special thanks also to Angela Corrigan, Ann McGrath, Ann Mulkeen, Sam Abid, Vincent Rosales, Patricia Courtney, Romeo and Mary Broderick, and all those who cared for Tom with such kindness, compassion and dignity throughout his illness. A special word of thanks is extended to Marie, whose love, devotion and care, together with the support of family, friends and carers, allowed Tom to remain at home, surrounded by those he loved. It truly took an army of love.
