In a landmark decision at last night’s Special Congress held at Croke Park, the Camogie Association voted in favour of allowing players the option to wear either skorts or shorts during competitive matches. The motions passed with a 98% majority, marking a significant and progressive change to uniform policy. This decision comes after growing calls from players to modernise the dress code.
The Galway Camogie executive welcomed the outcome with enthusiasm. The Galway Camogie executive also would like to express its joy at the result, calling it “a long overdue and player-first decision that reflects the evolving needs of our athletes.” They commended the players for their courage and the Association for listening. Camogie President Brian Molloy confirmed the rule change will take effect from Midnight last night, in time for the All-Ireland Championships, ensuring athletes can compete in attire that supports both performance and comfort.
Galway Seniors play Dublin tomorrow in Athenry at 4 o'clock in their opening game of the All-Ireland Championship. The game is preceded by Galway v Tipperary in the All-Ireland U23 Championship at 2pm.
