Lidl Ireland, in partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA), has announced four winning clubs in this year’s Lidl Plus LGFA Rewards Scheme, rewarding four lucky clubs across the island of Ireland with cash prizes worth more than €80,000. Clifden-based Gráinne Mhaols Ladies Gaelic Football Club scored a runner-up prize of €10,000, recognising the club’s outstanding engagement, passion, and dedication both on and off the pitch. Gráinne Mhaols Ladies Gaelic Football Club in Clifden join another two runner-up teams - Lurgan Ladies Gaelic Football (Virginia, Co. Cavan), and Navan O’Mahony’s Ladies Gaelic Football Club (Navan, Co. Meath), with each receiving €10,000 in funding from Lidl Ireland to invest in their development and facilities. The top prize of €50,000 was won by Carrigaline Ladies Gaelic Football Club (Carrigaline, Co. Cork). Now in its fourth year, the Lidl Plus LGFA Rewards Scheme was developed by the retailer as part of its longstanding partnership with the LGFA to support grassroots development and raise awareness of the unwavering community spirit within LGFA clubs across the country. This year’s programme continues the legacy of impact, with more than 740 participating LGFA teams benefitting from new jerseys worth over €380,000. To date, more than €800,000 has been invested in local teams through the Lidl Plus LGFA Reward Scheme.

Tara O’Connor, Regional Managing Director at Lidl Ireland, said:

"We are delighted to finally announce the winners of this year’s Lidl Plus LGFA Rewards Scheme. A huge congratulations to Gráinne Mhaols LGFA in Clifden, for showing how impactful grassroots support can be in encouraging young girls to engage with sport from an early age. It’s great to have a west of Ireland team winning one of the top slots and the team at our Clifden store were delighted to celebrate alongside them. At Lidl, we are proud to champion women in sport, having launched the first major sponsorship of women’s sport in Ireland with the LGFA in 2016. The driving force behind our longstanding sponsorship has always been the impact we can make at the grassroots level in communities across the country We’re delighted successful the Lidl Plus LGFA Club Rewards Scheme has become, and we’re excited to see the positive impact the prize money will make in local clubs across the country."

This scheme continues to provide crucial support to our clubs, and we’re thrilled to see such strong engagement again this year. Huge congratulations to all the winners, your efforts reflect the passion and purpose at the heart of LGFA clubs across Ireland. We’re delighted to see Gráinne Mhaols Ladies Gaelic Football Club in Clifden earn a runner-up prize of €10,000. This initiative offers an incredible opportunity for communities to demonstrate their support while earning important funds for clubs. It’s been fantastic to witness so many teams get involved and create lasting benefits for their players and facilities.”

Through the Lidl Plus app, registered shoppers collected digital stamps by spending €50 or more in Lidl stores nationwide during February and March this year. Each completed stamp card contributed to a club’s overall total. Clubs that reached a minimum of 50 completed stamp cards were guaranteed a reward, ranging from Lidl-sponsored jerseys to cash funding of up to €5,000. This year the four finalist clubs went head-to-head in a poll on social media to rally further support. Carrigaline Ladies Gaelic Club came out on top, securing an overwhelming number of votes to claim the top prize. In 2024, Lidl procured more than €36 million in goods and services from Galway suppliers and has worked to support the LGFA through its partnerships. This year includes McDaid’s Football Special, a 1L original Football Special bottle featuring the ladies’ Gaelic football artwork for just €1.79 / £1.49 on promotional release in-store from Thursday 26th June, coinciding with LGFA knockout stages, and again from Thursday 31st July ahead of the TG4 All-Ireland Championship Finals. Since 2016, Lidl has invested over €10 million in LGFA through its ground-breaking partnership, transforming the perception and profile of women’s sport in Ireland.
