There was heartbreak for the Galway Minor Ladies footballers last night in Kinnegad in their All-Ireland semi-final meeting with Dublin, as the girls in maroon lost out on a 1-15 to 2-9 scoreline.
The Dubs started brighter and led by 1-4 to 0-1 in the opening quarter, but a goal by Zainab Rather helped Galway reduce the deficit to the minimum at half-time, 1-6 to 1-5. A goal by Galway's star forward Alisha O'Malley put the Tribeswomen in front 2-5 to 1-6 early in the second half, but it was Dublin who responded the better, scoring seven of the next eight points to regain control.
Indeed, if it wasn't for the inspired goalkeeping of Eadie Ryan, Galway would have been in big trouble, as the Kilconly girl made five point-blank saves to keep her side in the game.
Dublin led by a point, 1-13 to 2-9, in stoppage time, but with Galway pushing forward for an equaliser, the winners landed two late points to ensure they will be playing Cork in the All-Ireland final.
