Calasanctius narrowly defeated Mungret Community College 51-49 in a thrilling affair at the National Basketball Arena on Tuesday morning.
Despite Mungret's Emma Purtill putting the Limerick school in the lead in the final minute of the game, Calasanctius remained calm. They struck back through MVP Cara Cormican, who put in a massive three pointer while being fouled, to take back the lead with just 23 seconds remaining. Aisling Jordan got it done on the other end, forcing a turnover and drawing a foul, making one shot at the free-throw line to give the Oranmore school a two-point win and the U19 A Cup.
Following the game, Galway Bay FM's Ben Kelly caught up with Calasanctius assistant coach Richard Burke, as he was on the bus back from Dublin with a chorus of Calasanctius girls singing in the background...
