Around 200 people from local sports clubs attended an information and consultation meeting on the Community Sports Facilities Fund (CSFF) last Thursday night in the Ard Rí Hotel, Tuam. The meeting, hosted by Minister of State for Sport and Postal Policy Charlie McConalogue, was held to assist clubs applying for funding through the CSFF.
Speaking after the event, Minister McConalogue said: “It was great to have the opportunity to engage with clubs from Galway East, and I plan to come back to Galway in the new year to hold a similar event for clubs in Galway West. I’m delighted to see the continued increase in participation in sport in Galway and that’s due to the excellent work being done by the people who attended this session and their clubs. Volunteers are working extremely hard to provide the opportunity for people of all ages to engage in sport and the government is committed to supporting clubs with their plans to develop and improve their facilities through the next round of the CSSF,” Minister McConalogue commented.
“The session was a good opportunity to inform clubs about how the CSFF operates. While it served to assist clubs in applying for and drawing down payment, it also helped the department better understand the challenges being encountered by clubs when applying for funding support. Applications for the next round of the CSFF are set to open in late Spring. The CSFF provides grants to assist in the development or refurbishment of sports facilities and the provision of sports equipment. Its purpose is to develop high-quality, accessible, safe, well-designed, sustainable facilities in appropriate locations and to provide appropriate equipment to help maximise participation in sport and physical recreation. I want to thank everyone for attending the information evening and I hope they found it a beneficial exercise. This evening aims to help clubs to plan for their application to the next funding round," Minister McConalogue said.
