2026 Billy Carr Memorial Cup Begins This Evening

The second annual Billy Carr Memorial Cup competition will take place in Mervue this weekend.

The competition is run in memory of the club’s legendary clubman and coach, Billy Carr, who sadly passed away in June 2024.

The U10 competition which had been running for a number years prior to last year when Mervue Utd decided to re-name the tournament for young players in memory of Billy Carr and honour his memory for the long number of year’s he dedicated to the club coaching and mentoring young players at Fahy’s Field.

The Tournament begins this evening at Fahy’s Field with the Boys Plate and Girls Cup competitions and continues on Saturday with the Boys Cup and Shield Competitions.

Over 40 teams and over 400 players will participate over the next few days as the local Galway City & County teams will be joined on Saturday by teams travelling from Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Mayo for the Boys Cup and Shield Competitions. Last Year’s winners

The tournament is once again sponsored by Leo Walsh Pharmacy who has been a great supporter of this underage tournament for the future stars of the game.

For Saturday’s Boys Cup and Shield Competitions teams are travelling from Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Mayo along with the local Galway City & County teams.

On the day, there will be a food truck on location along with our own club shop and also the Rainey Days Coffee Truck. The organiser’s are hoping for some fine weather this year, but that won’t put a stop to the fun and experience for all these young players will have on the day.
