Both Galway colleges in Fitzgibbon Cup action today

It's a big day for both Galway colleges in action in the quarter finals of the Fitzgibbon Cup, with both GMIT and NUIG having home advantage. GMIT will be in action against TUS Midwest at 3pm in Carnmore, while NUIG take on Waterford IT in Dangan at 7pm.

NUIG topped their group with wins over UCD, Mary I and UCC while GMIT topped their three team group after wins over Trinity and MTU Cork. The two winners today will meet in the semi finals on Feb 17th (Thursday), setting up the possibility of a first ever all-Galway semi final.

Group C: GMIT 3-26 Trinity 1-8; GMIT 1-19 MTU Cork 1-17

Last night, DJ Carey saw his IT Carlow team clam a fully deserved quarter-final win on home soil 1-17 to 0-14 over defending champions UCC and they will play University of Limerick in the semi finals. UL defeated MTU Cork by 2-22 to 1-19 last night, with TJ Brennan from Clarinbridge at full back for the Limerick college and Conor Flaherty from Carnmore coming on as sub at half time to play the second half in the half back line. Flaherty has also played the opening two rounds of the National Football League in goals for Galway.
