Galway were defeated by Dublin in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final at Croke Park on Sunday afternoon after a Con O'Callaghan penalty and a black card for Liam Silke with nine minutes remaining set the platform to come back from six points down to set up a semi-final clash with Kerry in two weeks time.
The sides were involved in a nip and tuck battle right throughout the first half as the Dubs led at the break by 0-14 to 0-13. When John Maher bundled the ball into the net with 15 minutes to play Galway had a six point advantage, but six minutes later Liam Silke was black carded for a foul on Colm Basquel which resulted in a penalty, which O'Callaghan scored despite the best efforts of Connor Gleeson.
Dublin then smelt blood, and despite Galway going ahead thanks to a Shane Walsh point, five points on the trot from Ger Brennan's side saw them into the semi-final, running out 1-25 to 1-21 winners at GAA Headquarters.
