The Galway GAA Centre in Loughgeorge was the venue last Friday for the 7th annual ECC Timber Products Scholarships presentation, where young Galway GAA stars are presented with scholarships to assist with their future education. The Scholarship programme is unique to Galway, and was initiated by ECC Teo founder and Managing Director PJ Fahy in 2020. Since then, 40 young Galway players in Gaelic and Ladies Football, Hurling and Camogie, have been the beneficiaries of this scheme, with most involved in county teams at several grades from minor to senior.
ECC is very grateful for the support we receive from local communities around our manufacturing facility in Corr na Mona. In 2022, the company celebrated 30 years in business and to mark this success, ECC committed to continue making annual contributions to surrounding GAA clubs and other voluntary organisations in the local area totalling €1,000,000 up to 2027. Also, from 2023 - 2026, ECC is making major contributions to both of PJ Fahy’s local ladies and mens football clubs – Glinsk GAA Club and Glenamaddy GAA Club for the purpose of the development of the facilities in both clubs. This will provide a platform for both clubs to build for an exciting future. ECC are the main sponsors of Glenamaddy/Williamstown Ladies Gaelic Football Club and Northern Gaels Football Club.
GAA has always been close to PJ Fahy’s heart and in particular the role it plays in the development of young people. He is extremely proud of the fact that the ECC logo has been to the fore on many an All Ireland winning jersey whether it be in club, county, or school competition. In 2020, ECC were very proud to announce the inaugural ‘ECC Sports Scholarships’, supporting talented sports persons in Galway GAA. The scholarship provides financial assistance for young students who are about to enter third level education or apprenticeships or who have completed one year of third level education/apprenticeship. There will be eight scholarships in 2026, bringing total scholarship recipients to date to 40. The scholarship is worth €10,000 to each recipient or €2,500 per year in third level education/apprenticeship. ECC hopes this scheme will support students to maintain a dual focus on academic and sporting progression. The 2026 scholarship recipients are:
