Fitzgibbon Success For Three Galway Men

Fitzgibbon Cup Final – Croke Park

UL 4-31 MICL 3-21

Congrats to Galway players Darach Fahy of Ardrahan, and Oranmore Maree duo Anthony Keady and Gerry Carr who were part of the UL squad that won the Fitzgibbon Cup on Friday in Croke Park.

This is UL’s second Fitzgibbon success in a row. The final turned out to be a high scoring affair – one of the highest aggregate scores recorded for a 60 minute game.

For the first time since 2019, a double of Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon and Sigerson Cup title wins in the same season has been secured by UL. Limerick's Cathal O'Neill powered a star-studded UL to back-to-back Fitzgibbon Cup successes at Croke Park and, in the process, into the history books as just the fourth third level institution to complete the double.

UL simply had too much for their Limerick neighbours, Mary I. 5 Galway players saw action for Mary I on Friday night, namely Captain Eoin Lawless (Athenry), Darragh Walsh & Dara Whelan (both Turloughmore), Donnacha Campbell (Cappataggle) and Conor Lawless (Athenry), while Matthew Rosengrave (Beagh) was on the squad.

In another Galway connection, All-Ireland Hurling Final referee Liam Gordon (Killimor) was the man in the middle for the Final.
