Schools Cross Country
David Frazer of Craughwell AC competed for Ireland at the Home Countries and Celtic Cross Country Championships on Saturday at a muddy and testing course at Parliament Hill in London on the Boys U17 Ireland Team. He lined up as part of a strong 8-man U17 team, finished 15th overall and 3rd Irish scorer, helping his team to a Gold medal, along with race winner Darragh Whelan of Limerick, and Ruby Devereaux of Youghal and Thomas Coy of North Belfast

Athenry rising star Sean Doggett opened his indoor season last weekend and clocked a 47.30 PB over 400m in Kaunas, Lithuania at the Cosmo Cup event.

National Indoor League
Five Galway teams competed at Round 2 of the National Indoor Track and Field League last Sunday in Athlone, with qualification for the final on 14th February next at stake. Craughwell Mens team were the sole Galway squad to advance to the final after a tough competition in both Mens and Women’s events. Craughwell Men under the management of Ronnie Warde placed fifth overall and secured their spot via good performances from the likes of Oisin Davis, Cian Brady, Fergus Kelly, Luke O Sullivan, Sean Hoade among others.
Also in the Mens, Galway City Harriers made a valiant effort that just fell short in 10th place, with South Galway in 15th place. In the Ladies events, Craughwell AC ended up 10th overall, just ahead of South Galway Ladies in 13th place.
Fixtures
National Intermediate and Masters Cross Country
This weekend sees the National Intermediate and Masters Cross Country championships take place at the National Sports Campus in Abbottstown, Dublin on Sunday next. The event also features the Juvenile B Championships.
Galway clubs will send some strong teams, with Galway City Harriers well represented in both Mens and Women’s Intermediate races, each with a team medal shot. At Masters level, again GCH field Mens and Women’s squads. West Coast AC also have a strong contingent racing notably in the Mens Intermediate event.
Maree 8k
The annual Maree 8km takes place in the surrounds of Maree, Oranmore, Co. Galway on Sunday, February 15th 2026 at 12:30pm. This picturesque circuit has been measured to AI standards.
This run takes participants from Race HQ at Maree Community Centre out onto Galway Bay, down the picturesque Twain peninsula, and back to the Community Centre. This event will raise funds for facilities at the Maree Community Centre and is organised by the Maree Community Development Association in conjunction with Maree Athletics Club.
