Two Galway City Harriers have been selected for the upcoming European Team Championships in Maribor, Slovenia on the 28th to 29th June next

Andrew Egan of Galway City Harriers has been picked to run in the 200m individual event after closing a fast 20.86 early this season, and goes on the 4X100m Relay.

In comparison, GCH clubmate Cillin Greene has been chosen over 400m individually and will also compete in the 4X400m Relay.

Finlay Daly of the University of Galway was also picked and runs in the 3000m Steeplechase for Ireland

In the 800m Women's A race at the Belfast Milers' Meet, Emma Moore was second in a new personal best and secured yet another European B Standard with 2:03.54. This puts her strongly in contention for selection for the European Under 23 Championships later this year.

The Connacht Track and Field Championships for Juvenile athletes from U14 to U19 level were held in Sligo last weekend, alongside the Seniors and Masters events

Craughwell AC secured some fantastic results from the club, notably by the club's Senior ladies. The Ladies squad dominated with victory in the 4X100m relay with Siona Lawless, Arlene Earls, Leanagh Gilligan and Jade Moorhead, joint gold for Jade Moorhead and Leanagh Gilligan in the High Jump, and a 1-2-3 for Gilligan, Lawless and Moorhead in the Long jump. On the track, Craughwell secured gold for Arlene Earls in the 800m, double gold for Sinead Treacy in the 200m and 400m and silver for Sarah Finnegan in the triple jump. The men chipped in with gold for Cormac Kearney in the Senior Men’s Long jump and silver in the 200m, and gold for Sean Whelan in the 100m

At Juvenile level special mention for several performances which broke the Connacht Championship Records including Conor Penney in the U18 Boys 110m Hurdles and High Jump, Emma O' Donovan in the U18 Girls 100m Hurdles, Lauren Kilduff in the U18 Girls 400m Hurdles and Halle Feerick in both the U14 Boys 80m and 200m.

Galway City Harriers Sprint and Distance older juvenile groups were in brilliant form at the Connacht’s, winning gold medals via Katie O’Haire, who won a super double gold in the U17 100m and 200m sprints, setting personal bests in the process. Elisa Jaime Stapleton won the gold medal in the U18 Girls 400m event.

Keilah Murray won Gold in the U17 Girls 3000m, while Lucy Hounkponou likewise won U18 gold in the Long Jump.

Majus Ogulevicius did a super double, winning both the U17 Long Jump and Triple Jump, while Kevin Sangodele won gold in the Triple Jump at U16 level.

Shane McGovern won gold in the U18 400m with a 50 second run, and GCH secured two Relay golds, via the U17 Boys and U18 Girls teams.

Tuam AC secured a huge medal haul at the Championships, winning 16 Gold, 7 Silver and 6 Bronze medals on Sunday last. The club had multiple wins in the Race Walk events. In the U12 Race walks, Tuam won double gold via Chloe Haverty and Cumhall O’Callaghan; at U14 level there were wins from Grofu Newell and. Emma Howson, at U15. Cuisle O’Callaghan took gold. In the older ages, international Matthew Newell won over 5000m at U18 level, whilst Ciara Gilmore won the U19 Girls title.

At U16 level Rachel Treacy doubled up and claimed two superb golds over 80m and 250m hurdles.

Another Tuam athlete to claim multiple gold medals was the impressive Aoibheann O’Malley, who won both U14 High Jump and Long Jump as well as the U14 80m sprint, to cap a triple gold for the Tuam star.

Also, in the field, Rebecca Moynihan won U19 High Jump gold and Eoin Mooney U15 Discus gold.

In the middle distances, in the U18 Girls 3000m, Niamh McWalter claimed gold, as did Shane Ryan at the U19 Boys 1500m.

Athenry AC were strongly represented on the medal table, with wins in the U13 Boys 1000m Walk by Owen Gannon, a double win by Harry Melia in the U14 Boys 75m Hurdles and the U15 Boys 200m Sprint and victory in the U18 Boys 3000m for Rian Collins

At Senior Men’s level, Liam Shaw returned from his US scholarship to claim both Discus Throw and Shot Putt gold.

West Coast AC continue to grow as a new club and again were successful at the Connacht’s. The club won on the double at Senior level with Emmanuel Umeanadu winning gold over 100m and Ben Edeh claiming the 200m title.

At Junior/U20 level, Oisin Phelan and Margaret Nnadi both claimed gold over 400m Hurdles, while at U19 level Lemar Luciano won on the double with gold over 100m and 200m, the latter in a championship record.

In the U18 competition, West Coast excelled, with wins for Angela Cielecka in the 100m sprint, Izzy Kelly in the Discus, Caoimhe Phelan in the 3k Walk, Caleb Ike with gold in the Shot Put and Sizo Ndhlovu over 200m.

At U16 level, there was a double win for Michelle Nnadi in the 100m and 200m.

West Coast U17 Girls 4X100m Relay team took gold by way of Ally Elonga, Princess Ehis, Praise Limbila and Michelle Nnadi, as did the U18 Boys 4X100 squad of Lumbala Daniel Sangodele, Jayden Montes, Francis McCarthy, Sizo Ndhlovu and Caleb Ike

Clare River Harriers athletes were also impressive in the Connacht Outdoor Championships in Sligo.

Patrick Lee set the tone for the day by breaking the Connacht Championship Record by 2 secs and clocking 4.32 in the u15 1500m. He was joined on the podium in this event by Sean Howley, who finished 3rd.

At U14 level, CRH secured gold via Aoibhe Daly over 800m, with Elise Day third, a second medal following on from her 1500m silver.

Rhona Connolly flew the CRH flag solo in the U17 1500m and 3km, and her efforts were rewarded with a bronze medal in the 3km.

CRH race walkers Hazel Dinkin and Keelan O’Grady claimed silver medals in their events and Ava Dinkin scored a gold medal in the U13 girl’s event.

Castlegar AC also impressed, securing gold in the U16, 2km walk via Cliodhna Ni Chonaill, who powered home in 10.24.23 to claim Connacht gold. In the U16 1500m, Elly Turner claimed bronze, Orla Casey took Bronze in the U17 1500m, while Isabelle Conroy won bronze in the U18 1500m, and silver over 800m.

South Galway AC secured 10 Gold, 7 Silver and 6 bronze across a highly successful day.

At U17 level, Claudia Coyle was most impressive, winning double gold in both 800m and 1,500m As was clubmate Luke Walsh, who again doubled up for gold in both the 1500m and 3,000m.

There was a Gold medal performance by Ciarán Kelleher over the 3,000m Walk.

In the U15 section, Cathal Walsh leapt to gold in the Long Jump, while at U14 level, there was a gold for Nora Walsh in the 2,000m walk.

Capping it off, Greg Lundon secured a triple gold at master’s level, winning all three 3,000m, Discus and Javelin events.

Next up are the National Children's Games this weekend on June 22nd.

The Bullaun 8k is a road race taking place in Bullaun, Loughrea Friday next June 20th, 2025, at 7.30pm.

The Event is time chipped, and is open on Eventmaster for entry now with limited availability
