Fields of Athenry 10k

A record entry of close to 3,000 made their way to Athenry on St Stephen's Day last, for the 24th running of the famous Fields of Athenry 10k race, organised by Athenry AC.

Out front, Jamie Fallon of Craughwell AC put in a dominant display of racing, storming home in 30.34 for a clear win for a second year in a row, ahead of Luke Johnston of Moy Valley AC in second in 31.17 and Karl Fitzmaurice of Shannon AC in third in 31.48.

National marathon champion Ava Crean from Limerick won the Ladies race in a National U20 record of 33.40, with Dee Grady of Ennis Track next home in 34.44 , and Maebh Brannigan of Galway City Harriers third in 35.16.

Fixtures

Galway City Harriers host the annual Resolution Run 5k on New Year’s Day at 10.15 am, January 1st 2026, in the city. Race capacity has been reached at 650 entries, with the start on Grattan Road at South Park, and the finish at the Claddagh Hall.

A fast field is expected with the likes of William Fitzgerald of Craughwell, Eoin Molloy of Castlegar and Dave Carter of GCH among the favourites.
