Galway Community Games to hold final EGM on Jan 28th

Galway Community Games held its County Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025. Unfortunately, the key positions of County Chairperson and County Secretary were not filled on the night. As these positions are mandatory, Galway Community Games cannot affiliate with National Community Games until they are filled. As a result, an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) was convened on Wednesday, 14th January 2026 at the Raheen Woods Hotel, with all Area Delegates requested to attend. Despite strong engagement and discussion, there were again no nominations for the vacant roles, and the County Committee could not be formally established.

final EGM has now been arranged for Wednesday, 28th January 2026, at the Raheen Woods Hotel. Delegates from all affiliated areas are strongly encouraged to attend. These positions must be filled so that Galway Community Games can register with National Community Games and enable Galway children and young people to participate in Community Games activities in 2026.

Community Games is a wonderful voluntary organisation that provides inclusive opportunities for young people to take part in both sporting and cultural activities, fostering community spirit, participation, and personal development across the county. However, the continuation of Galway Community Games depends on community involvement and people stepping forward to support the organisation through this important transitional period. While new volunteers are urgently needed, it is essential to note that several current County Committee members, each with extensive experience and a profound understanding of Community Games, will remain in place to provide guidance, continuity, and support to any new officers. Galway Community Games is appealing to community members, parents, past participants, and volunteers, as well as local representatives, both political and community-led organisations, to help ensure the future of Community Games in Galway. If you know of anyone who may be interested in taking on a role or learning more about what is involved, please encourage them to get in touch.

Anyone interested can speak to a current member of the County Committee or email [email protected], and a committee member will answer any questions. This is a critical moment for Galway Community Games. With community support and a small number of people willing to step forward, this valued organisation can continue to thrive and provide opportunities for the next generation.
