Galway United have today announced the signing of 28-year-old Canadian winger Kris Twardek, who joins from Canadian Premier League Club, Valour FC.
Twardek has plenty of League of Ireland experience, playing 47 times for Sligo Rovers and scored 2 goals across the 2018 and 2019 seasons, before signing for Bohemians in 2020 and playing 13 times and scoring one goal. He then had brief spells at Jagiellonia Bialystok in Poland and FK Senica in Slovakia before returning to Bohs in 2022, where he made a further 48 appearances.
Twardek has also previously represented both Czechia and Canada at International level. In 2025, Twardek made 27 appearances for Valour FC in the Canadian Premier League, scoring four goals.
Galway United manager John Caulfield, who the club announced last Friday has signed a new two-year deal, said, "I’m thrilled to have signed Kris. I’ve had lots of conversations with him over the last number of months. I was always an admirer of him when he played with Bohs & Sligo. His enthusiasm and eagerness to come back to the league and play for Galway United is infectious.
Our fans will be excited by his direct running, explosiveness, and his style of play will create a lot of chances for us, giving us great opportunities to score goals. He’s in the prime of his career and is exactly the type of creative player we want to bring to Eamonn Deacy Park and excite our fans."
Twardek becomes United's second signing of the closed season after ex-Dundalk defender Wasiri Williams signed last week. After a number of high profile departures, David Hurley, Killian Brouder, Jimmy Keohane and Stephen Walsh have been declared to remain at the club for the 2026 season.
Today, defender Rob Slevin was signed by Derry City after spending three seasons at Eamon Deacy Park.
The fixtures for the 2026 League of Ireland season will be announced on Tuesday, December 16th, ahead of the first game, which will take place on Friday, 6th February.
