The inaugural Mick Molloy 5K Road race was held last night in Oughterard, where over 200 athletes from all around the region competed. The chip-timed event attreacted some of the top athletes from Galway's most successful clubs, and the results didn't disappoint with the men's race being won by Abbas Adam Edris from West Coast in a blistering time of 15:35, while Julie Bradshaw from GCH dominated the Women's race to come home first in 18:56. The race was organised by Corrib AC and Oughterard GAA, where the presentation of prizes took place afterwards. On hand to present the prizes was Murt Molloy, brother of the late Mick Molloy after whom the race was named. Mick was a famed local athlete who represented Ireland in the Marathon at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico and won a staggering 15 national championships in a glittering career.
