A group of sporting legends have embarked on a challenge that will see them cycle around Ireland, raising money for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
Scottish sporting legends Kenny Logan and Ally McCoist and a team of celebrities, are attempting to cycle 555 miles from their start point of Kingspan Stadium in Belfast to the finish line at the Aviva Stadium, where they will present the match ball ahead of the 1888 Cup meeting of The British and Irish Lions and Argentina.
Known as the "Doddie's Lions Challenge", the cycle is done in memory of the rugby legend Doddie Weir, who passed away from Motor Neurone Disease in 2022.
The cycle also remembers all of those who have passed away from the disease and their families.
The group set off from the Kingspan Stadium on Sunday morning for a gruelling six-day ride around Ireland.
They’ll cover up to 100 miles a day, passing through some of the island’s most iconic rugby heartlands.
All funds raised will support the Foundation’s mission to find effective treatments – and ultimately a cure – for motor neurone disease.
William Davies was there when the group arrived at Dexcom Stadium in Galway on Monday.
This is his report.
