Westside Playing Fields junior parkrun started on Sunday 7th November, 2021 when 110 children crossed the finish line after completing the 2Km course.
Since then 180 parkruns have taken place on Sunday mornings at 9.30am.
896 Children have done the Westside junior parkrun a total of 6,942 times with 1,377 Personal Best times recorded.
Westside junior parkrun is FREE for children from 4 to 14 years old to take part and the emphasis is on having fun while getting some exercise and it is NOT a race. So there are no prizes for 1st, 2nd or 3rd place finishers but instead the children get rewarded with milestone wristbands for completing 11 (half-marathon), 21 (marathon) 50 (ultra-marathon) junior parkruns.
Last Sunday marked another special occasion when Sean Fahy completed his 100th junior parkrun and was presented with his “100 junior parkruns” milestone wristband. Sean was also presented with a poster that highlighted all his 100 junior parkruns and photos taken during his time at Westside Playing Fields junior parkrun. Sean along with his parents Rachel and Benen are great at helping out as volunteers at the event every Sunday morning.
Sean now joins 17 other children that have completed 100 junior parkruns in Co. Galway.
Westside Playing Fields will be celebrating its 4th Birthday on Sunday 2nd November, 2025 at 9.30am. The children and parents can put on Fancy Dress, bring some treats to share with others and most of all join in on the fun.
FREE registration is on www.parkrun.ie and just turn up with the child’s barcode that will be created when you register.
