Paul Schofield and Men's Four Team Reach World under-19 Rowing Championship Semi-Finals

Ireland’s Men’s Four team, including Coláiste Iognáid’s Paul Schofield, are through to the semi-finals at the World under-19 Championships in Lithuania.

The team of Schofield, Daniel Crozier, Tommy Little and Richard Heaslip came 3rd in their heat in a time of 6’22.67” on Thursday (7th August 2025).  The semi-final will be just after 10am on Saturday.

It’s been a fantastic start at the 2025 World Rowing Under 19 Championships in Trakai, Lithuania, as all five crews have successfully progressed through their heats and into the semi-finals. A huge well done to the athletes, coaches, and support staff for this excellent achievement on the world stage.

Aoife Hendy (Skibbereen RC) and Sophia Young (Methodist College Belfast RC) delivered a commanding performance to win their heat, clocking a time of 7:26.88. They will race in the Junior Women’s Double Sculls Semifinal 2 on Friday, 8 August at 09:34 IST, Lane 3.

Jack Rafferty (St Michael’s RC) and Jonah Kirby (Kenmare RC) also took 1st place in their heat, finishing in a time of 6:37.15. They advance to the Junior Men’s Double Sculls Semifinal 2, scheduled for Friday, 8 August at 09:46 IST, Lane 3.

A superb row from Sarah Rockett (Athlone BC), Isabella Wright (Enniskillen Royal BC), Clóda Phillips (St. Michael’s RC), and Anna O’Grady (Athlone BC) secured their place in the next round. The crew will line up in Under 19 Women’s Four Semifinal 1 on Saturday, 9 August at 12:01 IST, Lane 5.

Daniel Crozier (Methodist College RC), Tommy Little (Neptune RC), Richard Heaslip (Athlone BC), and Paul Schofield (Coláiste Iognáid RC) put in a strong effort to finish third in their heat and secure a semi-final place. They race in Under 19 Men’s Four Semifinal 2 on Saturday, 9 August at 12:28 IST, Lane 1.

Harry McCartney (Methodist College RC), Bill Murphy (Cappoquin RC), Mattias Cogan (Skibbereen RC), and Evan O’Byrne (St Michael’s RC) produced a solid performance to finish third in Heat 4 of the Men’s Quadruple Sculls. They’ll compete in Under 19 Men’s Quadruple Sculls Semifinal 1 on Saturday, 9 August at 12:55 IST, Lane 6.

This is a fantastic achievement by all involved and a testament to the depth of talent coming through the junior pathway. We look forward to an exciting round of semi-final racing, and best of luck to all crews and coaches!
