The Galway football community will come together at Eamon Deacy Park for a very special occasion on Saturday, November 15th, at 2pm for the Stephen Walsh Testimonial Match.
This event promises to be an unforgettable celebration of one of Galway’s most beloved footballers, honouring Galway United’s record appearance maker Stephen Walsh’s outstanding career, dedication, and contribution to the sport and community.
The testimonial match will see two iconic sides face off: A Galway United Legends XI and a Galway FA Legends XI featuring a lineup of former players and local heroes who have shared the pitch and memories with Walsh over the years.
Fans can expect to see many Galway footballing legends from recent and not-so-recent years, with plenty of thrilling football as they take to the field once again.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the evening will feature live music performances from special guests Jamie McIntyre, DJ Shampain, and Danny D’Arcy, ensuring the celebration continues both beforehand in McGinns Hophouse and in Mary Mullen’s post-game. With Claddagh Watch and Cancer Care West as the charity partners for the day, the Stephen Walsh Testimonial Match is set to be one of the highlights of the local sporting calendar.
Families are warmly encouraged to attend — children under 12 can enter free of charge when accompanied by an adult, making it a perfect afternoon out for football fans of all ages. Food, refreshments, and fan activities will also be available throughout the event, including a celebrity GAA goalkeeper for a half-time penalty competition.
