The Amateur Golf season kicks off in earnest tomorrow with the opening round of the Connolly Motor Group West of Ireland Championship in County Sligo. 8 Galway golfers are teeing it up at Rosses Point, including 2007 champion Joe Lyons from Galway Golf Club, who starts at 10.26 am. The others include David Kitt from Athenry, Galway Bay's Mikie Greally, Eddie McCormack, Luke Cunningham and Rory Gallagher, Fergal Coyle from Athenry and Niall Conneely of Ballinasloe. The Championship has been won by major champions Padraig Harrington (1994) and Rory McIlroy (2005 and 2006).
