Dunmore MacHales and Galway forward Shane McGrath (pictured) was the hero for the University of Galway last night in Belfield as he landed a late two-pointer to send his side through to the Sigerson Cup semi-finals next week against UCC. It was the home side who started brighter, with St Brigid's Roscommon star Ben O'Carroll and Mayo's Niall Hurley among the scorers as UCD led 0-9 to 0-3 at half-time. University of Galway also had Moycullen midfielder Ger Davoren black-carded in that opening half, but they stormed back into the game in the second half when Eoin Colleran, Mark McInerney and Cillian O'Curraoin all scored two-pointers. It was tit-for-tat late on, with both sides taking turns to equalise, but it was the University of Galway's fourth and final two-pointer from McGrath that would eventually settle the issue.
