Athenry Camogie going for All-Ireland glory

Athenry will bid to end a 48-year wait for a second All-Ireland Senior Club Camogie title when the Galway champions take on St Finbarr's of Cork in Sunday's final in Croke Park at 4.15 pm. Joe Rabbitte's side defeated former champions Dicksboro from Kilkenny in the semi-finals, having overcome defending All-Ireland champions Sarsfields in the Galway county final in October. That victory in Kenny Park was a pivotal moment in Athenry's recent history of near misses, as goals either side of half-time from Eimear Keane secured a 2-8 to 1-8 triumph. That was followed up last Saturday week with an equally tough 1-9 to 0-10 win over Dicksboro in the All-Ireland semi-final in Kinnegad, a game in which Athenry found themselves four points down early on. Their opponents in Sunday's final are St Finbarr's, who themselves had to battle through a double period of extra time in their All-Ireland semi-final against Loughgiel Shamrocks, before the Cork girls came out on the right side of a 3-15 to 3-14 scoreline.
