23 projects from eleven Galway schools will be at the finals of the Young Scientist competition in a fortnight's time.
The annual Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition is taking place at Dublin's RDS from the 7th-10th of January
From unpickable locks with magnets to the hopes and failures of the free hot meals programme - this year's batch of Galway young scientists are covering quite the range of research themes.
Coláiste Muire Máthair in the city has a whopping six projects going forward - on topics such as AI, female representation in science books and the driver theory test.
The other city schools to make the finals are Galway Educate Together, Coláiste Iognáid (The Jes), Salerno Secondary School, Coláiste Mhuire Ballygar and Dominican College.
In the county, both Presentation College Headford and Coláiste Naomh Eoin on Inis Meáin have four projects each going forward.
While the other county schools heading to Dublin for the competition are Clarin College Athenry, Dunmore Community School, Portumna Community School and Coláiste Ghobnait on Inis Oírr.
