50% rise in new EV sales in Galway in January

There's been a 50 percent rise in the number of new electric vehicles sales in Galway during the first month of the year.

247 new EVs were registered last month - compared to 164 in January 2025.

Meanwhile, 1,600 new cars were registered in Galway since the start of the year - just a slight rise of 5 percent on last year.

Nationally, more than seven thousand EVs were registered last month - an almost 50 percent increase in sales compared to January 2025

This growth represents the highest number of electric car registrations to date.

Hybrid (Petrol Electric) has taken the lead for the first time at almost 30 percent as the most popular engine type.
