Galway Bay fm newsroom - The spend on agency staff at Galway University Hospitals has almost doubled in the past three years, according to Sinn Féin Health Spokesperson Louise O Reilly.
The total spend on agency staff for Galway city's two public hospitals from 2011 to 2016 was 18 million euro.
Last year the HSE spent almost 2.9 million euro on agency staff at UHG and Merlin Park Hospital.
City Sinn Féin Councillor Mairéad Farrell says the government should be investing in the public health service and not on paying private sector staff.
