New bye-laws forbidding the consumption of alcohol in public places in the Tuam Municipal District area are to be introduced in the summer after a period of public consultation
After being approved at this week's meeting the draft bye-laws will be available to view from next Tuesday March 18 to April 17, while public submissions can be made until April 24
The drinking bye-laws and the submissions will be presented to the Tuam area councillors for approval on June 8
The commencement date is July 7th and will be accompanied by a public information campaign and signage
The bye-laws will allow Gardaí to confiscate alcohol from anyone drinking in a public place
If someone refuses to stop drinking or leave the area peacefully they can be fined 75 euro
