Ban on public drinking in Tuam Municipal District to be introduced in the Summer

New bye-laws forbidding the consumption of alcohol in public places in the Tuam Municipal District area are to be introduced in the summer after a period of public consultation

After being approved at this week's meeting the draft bye-laws will be available to view from next Tuesday March 18 to April 17, while public submissions can be made until April 24

The drinking bye-laws and the submissions will be presented to the Tuam area councillors for approval on June 8

The commencement date is July 7th and will be accompanied by a public information campaign and signage

The bye-laws will allow Gardaí to confiscate alcohol from anyone drinking in a public place

If someone refuses to stop drinking or leave the area peacefully they can be fined 75 euro
