Call for analysis of city housing lands after hundreds of homes refused

There's a call for an immediate and in-depth analysis of all council-owned housing land banks in the city.

Councillor Alan Cheevers is calling for an urgent meeting of Galway City Council after more than 350 homes were refused permission at Galway Harbour.

They're a mix of cost-rental and social homes, and were refused due to serious safety concerns linked to nearby fuel storage tanks.

Councillor Cheevers says it comes on the heels of major delays to a social housing project at Merlin Park due to archaeological discoveries.

Fianna Fail Councillor Cheevers says there now should be an immediate analysis of all publicly-owned land banks to ensure issues like this do not come up again.
