Council urged to act over rat infestation caused by derelict housing in Loughrea

A call has been made for Galway County Council to take action over an 'unacceptable' rat infestation caused by derelict housing in Loughrea.

According to Fianna Fail Councillor Michael Regan, a resident on the old Galway road has to leave her house every night due to the infestation.

The house is situated between 2 derelict properties that have fallen into disrepair, and are said to be harboring rodents.

Sites placed on the Councils derelict property register can incur an annual levy of 7% of the market value of the property.

Speaking to Galway Talks, Councillor Regan says that questions need to be answered in relation to the current status of the sites.
