New bye-laws should be introduced to fine people feeding wild birds in the city.
That's according to city councillor Frank Fahy, who's been speaking about the huge numbers of seagulls roaming around public spaces far inland.
The matter has come under national focus this week after Galway Clinic was forced to warn patients about aggressive seagulls on the hospital grounds.
Councillor Fahy says such large numbers of semi-tame seagulls in an urban setting is not normal - and it's partially down to a culture of people feeding these birds.
He also highlights issues like food waste being left in plastic bags on the streets in the early hours for collection - only to be torn apart by seagulls.
Councillor Fahy told Galway Talks that has to be tackled by the city council - but so too, does the issue of people deliberately feeding them.
