A Lithuanian man has pleaded guilty to engaging in a terrorist plot to attack a Galway mosque.
39 year old Karolis Peckauskas of Newfoundwell Road, Drogheda, Co Louth entered the guilty plea at the Special Criminal Court today.
He is the third man to plead guilty on the charge of attempting to engage in a terrorist activity or a terrorist-linked activity to damage by fire Maryam Mosque at Old Cottages, Monivea Road between November 4th and 5th, 2025.
On June 8th, the defendant's co-accused 33 year old Darren Gorman of O’Moore Place, Portlaoise Co Laois and 35 year old Garrett Pollock of Kilhorne Greene, Annalong, Co Down both pleaded guilty to the same offence.
A fourth man, 35 year old Charles Flynn of Castlerock Avenue, Castleconnell, Co Limerick, remains charged with the same offence, with his case next up for mention on July 20th.
Peckauskas, Gorman and Pollock will all return before the court on October 5th next for a sentence hearing.
Peckauskas is also accused of having a number of weapons and substances, but has claimed he cannot get a fair trial on one charge relating to the Explosives Act.
A stay has been imposed on his prosecution on the explosives charge until judgment is returned on his High Court challenge.
