A local councillor is seeking an update from Uisce Eireann on its plans to extract water from the River Shannon to supply the east of the country
It has applied for planning permission for what is the largest water project in Irish history - a €4.6bn project which would see a 170km pipeline constructed.
Just last month, up to 50 boats took part in a demonstration rally on the River Shannon to highlight opposition to the plans.
