Turloughmore’s Jarlath McDonagh has been presented with a Lifetime Achievement award.
He received the honour at last night’s County Cathaoirleach awards in the Raheem Woods Hotel in Athenry.
Cathaoirleach David Collins said the accolade was based on Jarlath’s life long devotion to education and public service and his promotion of sport and community development.
Two other significant awards presented last night were a Posthumous Special Recognition award for Damian Delaney of Lackagh and a Heritage Legacy award for the Fionn Galway Science project

Best Contribution to Heritage - John Tarpey Kilskeagh
Heritage Publication - Ballinderreen Community Centre
Best Contribution to the Irish language - Pop Up Gaeltacht Kinvara
Environment and Climate Action - Brian Healy Ballygar
Social Inclusion - Eyrecourt and District Community Development
Sport - St Colman’s Camogie Club
Tidy Towns - Oranmore
Pride of Place - Portumna Tidy Towns and Tuam Women’s Shed
All winners received a cash prize of 500 euro and a hand-crafted wooden Galway Hooker by Sean Mahony of Craughwell
