City Councillor Frank Fahy has confirmed he will be contesting the upcoming Seanad by-election.
He'll be seeking to fill the seat vacated by his Fine Gael party colleague, and now Galway West TD, Sean Kyne.
Nominations closed at 5 this evening, and there are a number of Fine Gael candidates confirmed.
But it's not yet known what the final list of opposition candidates might be.

A vote will take place in the Dáil - but crucially it will be a secret ballot, meaning there's no guarantee that a Government candidate will succeed.
