Connemara Cllr accuses Varadkar of 'shameless attempt to sow division between urban and rural communities'

Connemara Councillor Noel Thomas has accused Leo Varadkar of a 'shameless attempt to sow division between urban and rural communities'.

It follows remarks made by the former Taoiseach, suggesting urban workers are the ones 'paying all the bills' while rural communities are getting a 'lot of subsidies'.

Tánaiste Simon Harris has distanced himself from the sentiments, saying he did not believe in 'dividing people' based on what jobs they do or where they live.

Former Fine Gael leader Leo Varadkar made the comments on the Path to Power podcast while reflecting on the fuel blockades.
