Construction of a major underground wastewater storage tank in Merlin Park is to begin this week.
This facility is seen as a key element of the infrastructure needed for the building of potentially thousands of homes on lands to the east of the city.
Uisce Éireann is upgrading the pumping station to a 950 cubic metre tank, which will increase capacity of the wastewater network in the east of the city.
Site clearance works were completed in february, and pre-construction works have been ongoing in recent weeks.
According to Uisce Éireann, these upgrades will also reduce the risk of sewer flooding in the network.
The works will be carried out by GMC Utilities group on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
