The contract is to be signed today for the new Loughrea Fire Station
This follows the Government's confirmation in April of €3.4 million in funding for the new facility
Once the contract is signed, construction will begin at St. Lawrence's Fields, where a modern three-bay fire station and training area will replace the existing facility, which has served the community for more than 70 years.
Junior Minister and Galway East TD Seán Canney says the existing station has served the community extremely well for decades, but is no longer suitable for the demands placed on a modern fire service.

Local councillor Michael Moegie Maher says he's hopeful the new facility will be operational next year.
