A contractor is to be appointed imminently to fit out the new home of Galway City Council at Crown Square in Mervue.
At a meeting at City Hall this week, it was confirmed that a preferred contractor has been identified.
It's expected a letter will be issued in the next fortnight, and subject to works starting, the move should be substantially completed by Christmas.
The building was purchased several years ago, as the existing City Hall at College Road is cramped and in need of serious upgrade works.
The much bigger City Hall at Crown Square remains controversial in the public eye, though several independent valuations concluded it was good value for money.
