Plans for major upgrades at Oranmore Train Station have taken a significant step forward.
Galway West TD John Connolly says Irish Rail has now identified a preferred bidder for a scheme to build a passing loop and second platform.
The works will allow a doubling of train services stopping in Oranmore, to every 30 minutes in each direction.
Seperately, plans are also advancing for a multi-storey carpark on the site.
Fianna Fail Deputy Connolly says these are all very important projects and it's hoped they'll be completed by the end of 2027.
