County Council housing waiting list in Connemara down by 8% over the past year.

The County Council housing waiting list in Connemara has gone down by 8% over the past year.

The drop in the waiting list is consistent across most of the areas west of the Corrib.

At this time, there are 472 families and individuals looking for social housing in the area west of Galway City. The number a year ago stood at 516.

The statistics are broken down geographically.

The section from Roundstone north to Leenaun, and including Clifden, has 85 on the housing list, a drop of 28 since last year

The area from Leitir Móir and an Cheathrua Rua, and extending west to Carna has 72 on the housing list, a drop of 8 since last year.

From Ros a Mhíl to Spiddal and further towards the city and there 94, a drop of 14.

The area from Moycullen to Oughterard and north to Clonbur, with 204 on the list, is up by 5.

There are 17 applications from the Aran Islands and Inishbofin. That is one more than last year.

The total across the area shows an 8% drop, year on year.
