Cremation becoming more popular in county as costs of burials rise

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Tuam Funeral Director says cremation is becoming a more popular choice in County Galway as the cost of burials rises.

According to the Irish Independent, more than 40 percent of people who die in cities are now opting to be cremated, while 20 percent of those in rural areas are choosing the same option.

Opting for cremation in Galway city is significantly cheaper than being buried with the cost of a single burial plot priced at €780, compared to a single plot in the county costing €385.

Speaking on Galway Talks, Joe Grogan of Grogan Funeral Directors in Tuam says 20 percent of his business last year was from cremations so the trend is growing in rural areas too...
