Digital edition of world's first Irish-language newspaper launched in Galway

The digital edition of the world's first Irish-language newspaper was launched at University of Galway today.

An Gaodhal - founded by the late Mícheál Ó Lócháin from Milltown - was published monthly in Brooklyn, New York between 1881 and 1898.

Minister Dara Calleary launched the digital edition, which is available online now and contains more than two thousand pages.

The project was completed thanks to the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation, Irish Institute of New York, Glucksman Ireland House, New York University, University of Galway, the Gaeltacht Department and Foras na Gaeilge.
