Do Not Use Water Notice for households using supply from several Connemara lakes and rivers

A DO NOT USE Water Notice is in place for Connemara households who are extracting water from Glendollagh Lake, Derryclare Lough, Ballynahinch Lake, and Owenmore River

It's due to a serious fire incident in Recess village on the 9th July where there was a discharge of contaminated water into Glendollagh Lake.

The N59 near Recess was closed for several hours when a blaze broke out last week - resulting in the need for the Joyce's shop building to be demolished.

Galway County Council and the HSE say this is not a Boil Water Notice - and boiling the water will not reduce the contamination levels and is therefore not a suitable measure to make the water safe to use for any purpose.

The Council has been visiting impacted households and says it will continue to work and try to resolve this situation as soon as possible
